WINTER HIKING TIP

Hiking trail with a view

The Arosa – Prätschli – Maran – Arosa hiking route is perfect for getting a breath of fresh mountain air and enjoying the magnificent views.

Behind the Arosa railway station, the trail leads up to the Waldhotel, through the forest it goes higher until you reach the road again and have then reached the highest point on the Prätschli.

Past the Prätschli Hotel, the trail leads downhill again and now gives you a clear view of the cross-country ski trails of Maran and the Walser village of Medergen on the opposite side of the valley.

For those who still have some energy left, can extend the tour a little from Prätschli and climb even further in the direction of Arlenwald, then walk over the Maraner Hüschi to Maran.

In Maran it is worth stopping off at the sun terrace of Hof Maran or the isblaatere. The way back to the village leads along the Eichhörnliweg (squirrel trail). Here the fluffy little animals, which dare to get very close and eat directly from your hand, delight guests of all ages.

Our tip: Ask at our reception for the popular squirrel favourite nut mix.

SNOW SHOE TIP

Where the snow crunches softly

Leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and immerse yourself in the winter landscape above Arosa – the Prätschalp snowshoe trail (no. 597).

After starting from the hotel, the tour first leads along the cross-country ski trails through the forest and beyond the forest boundary. Several times along the way, a unique view of the long stretched Schanfigg valley and the mountain landscape of Arosa opens up. At the rustic and cosy Prätschalp you have reached the turning point and the halfway point of the tour. In summer, around 100 cows are grazed here by farmers from Chur.

Afterwards, the trail climbs a bit again towards Ober Prätschsee. Not far from the lake is the Guisanplatz. General Henri Guisan (1874-1960) attended a 1st of August celebration here during the Second World War. A memorial plaque commemorates this historic event. The path leads gently downhill back to the hotel.
